'Once upon a time...' in Papiamento is 'Un dia tabata...' And with this begins a modern fairytale. Modern dancers, groovy Antillian drummers and an elegant violinist transport the viewer - driven by the power of drums and dance - to a world of fantasy. Both touching and comic encounters are spun together in this fairytale reality.

'Un dia tabata...' is a dance performance by dancer and choreographer Karine Guizzo who is best known from her time with the Netherlands Dance Theater. With this piece she launches a special collaboration between modern dancers, Antillian drummers and a violinist who - each in their own way - bring fairytale characters to life. The premiere is on january 21st 2009 in Theater De Regentes in Den Haag and will also be performed in Theater Zuidplein in Rotterdam.

Come and seeIn 2007 Karine Guizzo was involved in the successful collaboration between professionals and amateurs including the talented young drummers of Rhythm Allstars. With them she realised several engaging scenes within the comunity-art performance 'Loket 025' from Dogtroep. In the research center Danslab she researched the possibilities of developing the individual talents of dancers and mucisians without using an existing story as a departure point. In october 2008 she involved professional dancers, a violinist and drummers from Rhythm Allstars in this experiment.

Under the leadership of Karine Guizzo a special collaboration between dancers and musicians is born with each performer bringing their own characteristic expression. Inspired by fairytales, themes such as love, life and death are given new air and a different light. Thus comes into existence 'Un dia tabata...', a modern fairytale where new fairytale characters come to life and discover the world and through it, discover themselves.
